Believing Isn't the Fruit. It's the Root.

You've tried to change the behavior. You've made the commitment, set the goal, drawn the line. And somewhere underneath all of it — quieter than you'd like to admit — the same pattern keeps showing up. Not because you're weak. Because behavior is never the root. Belief is. Fundamentals is a six-week series through Hebrews 11 that starts with a single question every week — not "what should I do," but "what do I actually believe, where did that belief come from, and is it true?" Each week opens on a Gospel scene where Jesus exposes what someone really believed underneath the surface. And each week closes on a man or woman in Hebrews 11 who let a truer belief produce something that changed everything around them. This isn't a formula. The outcome was never guaranteed by how hard anyone believed — it was always secured by God. But the root still matters. What you believe about yourself, about God, and about what's possible is already producing your life. This series asks whether it's producing the right one. A sermon series from Jesus Church Goshen — a church in Goshen, Indiana.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • You'll walk away understanding that behavior change without belief change doesn't stick — and why that's not a discipline problem.
  • You'll walk away knowing where the belief came from — the label, the voice, the diagnosis, the thing someone said that you never questioned.
  • You'll walk away seeing that faith isn't a formula that guarantees an outcome — it's a root that God honors on His terms, not yours.
  • You'll walk away with a new way to read the heroes of Hebrews 11 — not as people who performed well, but as people who believed something true when everything around them said otherwise.
  • You'll walk away knowing the object of faith was never an outcome. It was always Jesus.

FAQ:

Do I have to have a faith background to follow this? No. Each week opens with a scene — a real moment, a real person, a real question underneath the surface. You don't need to know Hebrews to feel it. Is this a prosperity gospel thing — believe hard enough and you get what you want? The opposite, actually. Week 5 exists specifically to name that lie. Some people in this series prayed and got the miracle. Some didn't. The series is honest about both. What if I've been told what to believe my whole life and I'm not sure it's true? That's exactly the question this series was built for. Start with Week 1 and bring the doubt with you. Where do I start? Week 1 — Not Everyone's Coming. The series builds week over week and Week 6 lands everything that came before it. Watch it in order.

Whatever you were told about yourself God has already said something different.

The question is which one you actually believe.
